prevalence-of-diabetes-in-nigerian-adults-1

November 14th is world diabetes day, a day dedicated to diabetes education all over the world. When Atim of Afrolems told me she and Gbemi of Dubai Fit Foodie
were organizing something to bring more awareness to diabetes among
Nigerians I was perfectly happy to participate. Finding actionable
solutions for Diabetes especially in a true Nigeria context is near and
dear to my heart, Diabetes affect a lot of people that I care greatly
about.

Some might wonder how much Diabetes actually affect Nigerians, you will
be alarmed by the statistics

One of the biggest struggles faced by diabetic sufferers is having
something else to drink aside from water. Diabetics are completely
disallowed from drinking any type of sugary drinks for good reason:

  • Soft drinks (minerals): aside from the fact
that a 12-oz bottle has over 3 Tablespoons of raw sugar. Considering
that 1 teaspoon of sugar has 5 grams of carbohydrate that is 50g of
carbs in 1 drink. This is as much carbohydrate as 3 slices of bread
  • Juices : All juices no matter how natural contain concentrated amounts of sugar. Any form of sugar concentration is bad for diabetics

In order to satisfying the inevitable “Fizzy” craving, here is a healthy
and nutritious sugar free drink that will definitely satisfy.
